A Special Name for A Special Boy

We have had a name picked out for a son for many many years now. We have never changed or wavered from this name. It is a name that is known, but not too common. There are very few people who knew the name we had chosen. For many years, as our friends and family would announce their children into the world we would breathe a sigh of relief as the name we had chosen still remained "ours".

On the day we saw our boy's face for the first time, we both knew that this would be his name, but for some reason I was still a little scared to share it with others - maybe we had kept it to ourselves for so long it felt like telling someone our secret, maybe I did not want people to judge or dislike the name because we love it so much, or maybe saying this name made him become more and more real, and I am afraid to fall too hard for him before he is legally our son.

But as the weeks have passed, saying his name has become more and more comforting and natural. His name is a part of our daily conversations and we love talking about him by name.

Seth is the name we call him and it means "Appointed One." His birth names will be his middle names and we will share these names after we pass court.

I love it!!!! Our name is also unusual. In fact while it is the name of something it is not listed as a baby name.

I love the name Seth. One of my favourite actors is Seth Green. ♥

I loved it the first time I read it and I love it even more now. Now comes the real test... shout "Seth, get off the table"... how does that sound because that's what you'll be saying very soon, friend :)

It's a beautiful name, Laura, and one of my personal favourites.

I'm not sure if you know the background to why his name means "appointed one." The reason for it, biblically, is this... You'll recall the story of Adam & Eve's son, Cain, killing his brother Abel. After this happened, Adam & Eve had another son, Seth. His name meant appointed one because he replaced the brother that died, and it was from his genealogy that Jesus was eventually born. So Seth was appointed to be a direct ancestor of Jesus. Hope that's of interest!

Blessings,

Ruth

Love that name! Good choice! Thanks for sharing it. In our area it's quite a common name. We know several Seth's. It's a well loved name.

The choice of a child's name is so personal-I think Seth is a great name, common enough to not have any spelling issues and yet not so common that he will have 6 in his classroom! We debated forever about Little Bear's name, still haven't revealed it yet online...partly because we haven't fine tuned the middle bits. We are so excited for you guys! Hope you hear good things soon!

A special name (I love it cause it's not one you hear much) for a very special boy. I also love that it is so special to you and one that you have been holding on to for a very long time.

"Seth, stop wrestling with Dad before someone gets hurt!"

I love it!!! And what a beautiful meaning. :)

My mom always told me to stand at the front door and yell the whole name: "John James Smith! Dinner's ready!!!" Repeat about 4x and if you still like the name, you've got a winner. :)

I LOVE it! And I'm not just saying that b/c that's what people say when you tell them the name you chose... I really really LOVE it. And the meaning, and the fact that it has remained your name through all these years.

And now he has a face and a name and soon he will have your last name!

I think it sounds so great in your family, as in Sara and Seth...what could sound better?! I agree that naming is one of those things that is a bit risky to expose because once you put it out there, you run the chance of people saying they hate the name. The meaning is great. My niece has a son named Seth and he is such a cutie. Can't wait until you can post Seth full name!
